How we determined vaccination workforce needs

State and local public health officials faced daunting logistical challenges during the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, including how to adequately staff COVID vaccination sites for increased distribution. While it鈥檚 no longer publicly available, 有料盒子APP鈥檚 COVID-19 Vaccination Workforce Simulator was designed to address these staffing concerns.

Healthcare and clerical workers were essential to effective COVID-19 vaccine administration and distribution鈥攇etting vaccine doses more quickly into people鈥檚 arms. State and local governments needed to address questions about workforce staffing and support, such as:

How should we adjust our workforce to handle the increased availability and distribution of vaccine doses?
How many medical professionals and clerical workers do we need at community vaccination sites?
Given the number of doses available, how long will it take to vaccinate residents in our community, county, or state?

About the Vaccination Workforce Simulator

Our Workforce Simulator provided users with a way to estimate staffing needs to administer the COVID-19 vaccine within a given timeframe. Using publicly available data, the tool allowed users to estimate clinical and clerical workforce requirements at the state and county level by modifying input parameters to reflect local processes.

The COVID-19 Vaccination Workforce Simulator consisted of three main sections:聽

Variables
To determine local area needs, the tool allowed users to input information such as state, clinical and clerical times, number of doses, number of weeks to vaccinate, and more.
Map
To help users visualize necessary clinical staff, clerical staff, and total workers per county, the Workforce Simulator provided a zoomable heatmap based on the results from the input variables.
Results
Once all variables were submitted, the tool created a table outlining the total number of workers needed by county, divided up into both clinical and clerical workers.
